Our client, a respected Partnerships Manager in the education-tech sector with no prior history, faced a single charge of assault in a family relationship—an offence carrying up to two years’ imprisonment and a permanent criminal record.

The stakes were exceptionally high. A conviction would have:

  • Ended his current career at a leading education-tech company, where he manages key partnerships with firms like Microsoft and Amazon, and works with youth and underfunded communities.

  • Blocked future advancement into senior leadership, public policy, or legal studies—fields requiring unimpeachable character.

  • Restricted international travel for business and family, including critical expansion work in Australia.

  • Jeopardised a government-funded enterprise he supports in the Philippines and his ability to obtain dual citizenship.

  • Subjected him to lasting stigma in both professional and personal spheres.

Our Strategy:We filed a detailed s106 application, demonstrating that the consequences of a conviction were “out of all proportion” to the offending. We emphasized:

  • Low Gravity: The incident arose under extreme stress, involved minimal force, and caused no injury.

  • Proactive Rehabilitation: The client had already completed a court-directed non-violence programme and community work, showing genuine remorse and commitment to change.

  • Severe & Documented Consequences: We provided evidence from his employment contract, HR policies, and immigration guidelines to prove the tangible risks to his career and mobility.

The Result:The Court granted a discharge without conviction. Our client retained his job, his clean record, his ability to travel internationally for work, and his future in education and tech leadership. He avoided the lifelong burden of a criminal record and continues to contribute positively to his community.
